Our Advisors form a group of very experienced professionals with successful entrepreneurial and operational backgrounds. Their networks cover all regions of the world and their competence base goes deeply into communications & software, as well as business development and expansion strategies.

 

The VIA Advisors may act as ad-hoc advisors to Via Venture Partners when specific investments are investigated or when a change of direction for a given portfolio company is being considered. Whenever there is a mutual interest and fit, VIA may consider recommending an Advisor as Director of Board to a portfolio company.

Kim Frimer

CEO at Energi Randers

Previously CEO and President of Danish telecom incumbent TDC Solutions A/S with 12,000 employees and DKK 22 billion in turnover, and member of the executive board of TDC A/S. In addition, Kim has held chairman and board member positions on a number of Danish companies, e.g. Panther Applications and Danish Crown.

Prior to TDC, Kim Frimer was CEO and President for 6 years for Sunrise AG, the second biggest Telecom operator in Switzerland, with 2500 employees and a turnover of DKK 10 billion. Kim Frimer also spent 2 years in Germany as CEO and President of Talkline AG, one of the leading German mobile service operators, with 1800 employees and a turnover of DKK 9 billion. Before these positions Kim Frimer held several leading positions in the Telco business, and has been participating in start up companies as well.

Kim Frimer holds an M.Sc. in Economics from the University of Aarhus.

Steen Lohse

Chairman, SML A/S.

Steen Lohse is Chairman of SML A/S from end 2006. In 2006, Steen was CEO of ITE (Interactive Television Entertainment ApS), Denmark’s largest multi-platform game developer and publisher, until it was sold to NDS, a New Corp. company. In 1990 ITE launched the interactive television show “Hugo the TV Troll” in Denmark and subsequently created an explosive international market with over 8.5 million games sold to date.

From 2001 to 2005, Steen Lohse was Partner and Investment Director in Vertex Venture Capital, a Singaporean venture capital firm. Investments included Maconomy, Digiquant (sold to Intec Plc in 2004), Hymite, Saxotech, Upfront Chromatography, and ISIC.

Before Vertex Venture, Steen Lohse was Chief Operating Officer in Ibsen Microstructures A/S who manufactures phase masks, fiber bragg gratings, and photonic components used in high speed telecommunications products. Steen raised 56 MDKK from DUF, LMX, Vertex, and 3i, and co-managed a successful exit of 80 MUSD to ADC telecommunications Inc.

Prior to Ibsen, Steen Lohse was VP Sales & Marketing in Ebone A/S (today Sprint Europe), Vice President Sales & Marketing in Olicom A/S, and Vice President Sales & Marketing in DDI communications A/S (owned by Olivetti).

Steen Lohse holds a Bsc. in Manufacturing & Management. Steen currently resides in Denmark.

Doug Shinsato

Senior Vice President, Creative Intelligence Associates (Tokyo).

CIA is an innovative business advisor which focuses on product and service branding in order to increase customer satisfaction, revenues and profits  He is also on the board of BridgeView Holdings, a financial advisory firm with offices in the US and Japan.

Doug is a bilingual Japanese-American with a long and successful career in consulting and sales-driven corporate management. Prior to joining ChampionScott Partners, Doug served as President, Japan for leading technology companies such as PTC and Siebel Systems and as head of Asia-Pacific for Autodesk, Interactive Intelligence and Genesys Labs. He served as the only non-Japanese member of the board of directors of Deloitte Tohmatsu Japan, where he led a 500+ person consulting group. Doug later served as the Regional Vice President in charge of the management services and IT consulting practices at EDS/A.T. Kearney in Japan, where he also served as a Board Member for EDS’ Japanese operations.

Earlier, Doug worked in Japan as a strategy consultant focused on information and communications technology for the Boston Consulting Group and Price Waterhouse, and served as an Adjunct Professor at the Graduate Business School of Sophia University in Tokyo.

Doug received his BA and MBA from the University of Southern California and also holds a JD from the Stanford Law School.

Lars Thomsen

IT Software and Solutions

Lars Thomsen, has been in the European IT Industry for nearly 20 years, in various roles within Sales, Contact Center, E-business, Marketing & General Management.
Currently Lars works in a fast growing software company focused on complex applications & solutions to local governement. Also, Lars is Chairman of the Board in two software companies specialised in mobility and IT for retail.

Prior to this, Lars was heading DELL EMEA Solutions and before that Regional Sales Director for the UK & Ireland, Benelux & Nordics. In this capacity, Lars led approximately 2500 people and was responsible for managing sales revenues in two of Dell’s longest established and fastest growing markets. Previously, Lars was based at Dell’s EMEA Business Campus in Dublin, as Director of Dell’s Home and Small Business Division for the UK and Ireland, managing Consumer and B2B Sales.

Lars Thomsen joined Dell in 1998 and was responsible for setting up the Nordic operation out of Copenhagen, Denmark. Lars also led Dell’s corporate business in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden.

Prior to joining Dell, Lars Thomsen held a number of senior positions at ICL in Denmark. Lars holds a Masters in Finance Management and Strategy from Copenhagen Business School and currently resides in Denmark.

Paul Weichselbaum

SVP Business Management, LoJack Corporation

At LoJack Paul is responsible for the company’s diversification strategy into new lines of business that will leverage LoJack’s unique brand, technology and partnership assets. In addition he is responsible for strategic product management, Marketing Communications and Branding, and a new business initiative that applies LoJack’s locating and recovery expertise to patients of Alzheimer’s and autism who are at risk of wandering.

Prior to LoJack Paul was the Chief Marketing Officer for One Communications, an $800M private equity-financed rollup in the competitive telecommunications arena. Before that he was SVP of Marketing and Operations for CTC Corporation where he was responsible for Engineering, Marketing, strategy, IT/IS, Sales Operations, Billing Operations and Program Management. Previous to that he was President of Suma Corp. where he provided private advisory services to investors, boards of directors and executives regarding strategy formulation, company and product positioning, and new product development and innovation. And prior to that he was CEO of OpenReach, a managed services provider of IP-VPN capabilities. Paul started his career at MCI Telecommunications where he served in a variety of executive positions in Network Operations, Commercial Sales and Service, National Accounts, Data Marketing, and Business Development across MCI’s voice, data and systems integration businesses.

Paul holds Bachelors’ degrees from Stanford University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

René Rechtman

Senior Vice President at AOL Advertising Europe and CEO of Goviral

René has worked in media, communications, management, and Internet for more than 13 years. Since 2008 he has been the CEO of the fast growing branded video content distributor Goviral, and was instrumental in its sale to AOL for $97 million in 2010, where he now serves a Senior Vice President of AOL Advertising Europe.

Before joining Goviral René spent 8 years helping to build TradeDoubler into a leading European provider of online marketing solutions (affiliate network, ad network, campaigns and technology). René’s latest role at Tradedoubler was as Vice President, where he was responsible for the group’s advertiser and publisher sales. Previously, he had been responsible for global client relationships, internationalization and MD for TradeDoubler’s Danish operations.

René holds a Master in Political Science from Copenhagen University and has worked on a Business PhD at Kingston Business School on the subject of business strategy and stakeholding.
